- Summary: An oil head and shoulders self-portrait of Henry Challis. He has short curly hair and a heavy moustache. He is dressed in a dark jacket with a white shirt and a blue tie.
- Description: Henry Challis was born in West Bromwich in 1867. He lived for most of his life in the Bearwood and Smethwick area. He was an amateur painter in both watercolour and oil. He left school when he was 12. He started his career as a bookmaker and repairer and later became a general book dealer. He died in 1962 aged 94.
